IMF delegation arrives in Egypt for bailout talks

CAIRO (AP) — A delegation from the International Monetary Fund arrived in Egypt on Saturday, responding to a request for a multibillion dollar bailout for the country's flagging economy.

Cairo airport officials said the IMF mission chief for Egypt, Christopher Jarvis, led the team that would meet officials later in the day from the Finance Ministry and the Central Bank. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not allowed to brief reporters.

Hebron (Palestinian Territories) (AFP) - The final leg of Palestinian football's biggest cup was postponed on Saturday after Israel prevented players from Gaza travelling to the West Bank for the fixture, football authorities said.

Israel refused to let six players and the coach of Shabab Khan Yunis cross its territory to the West Bank for the Palestinian Cup final, said Jibril al-Rajoub, president of the Palestinian Football Association.

Syrian civilians begin leaving rebel-held parts of Aleppo

BEIRUT (AP) — Dozens of families and some opposition fighters started leaving besieged rebel-held neighborhoods in the northern Syrian city of Aleppo on Saturday after the government opened safe corridors for civilians and fighters who want to leave, state media reported.

The government completely closed the main road into rebel-held areas of Aleppo on July 17, effectively besieging the 300,000 people living there.

EU's Juncker sees 'great risk' to migrant deal with Turkey: paper

ZURICH (Reuters) - European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker is concerned that a deal struck with Turkey in March on handling a wave of migrants bound for Europe could collapse, he told an Austrian newspaper.

"The risk is great. The success of the pact so far is fragile. (Turkish) President (Tayyip) Erdogan has several times hinted he wants to terminate the agreement," Juncker told Kurier when asked if the pact could fall apart.

Armenian police accuse barricaded gunmen of killing officer

YEREVAN, Armenia (AP) — Armed members of an opposition group barricaded inside a police station in Armenia's capital shot an officer dead on Saturday, police said.

The fatal shooting, the second since the takeover of the station two weeks ago, further heightened tensions following violent clashes Friday night between riot police and opposition supporters that injured 75 people.

London (AFP) - Geoff Hurst was reunited with the ball he hit a hat-trick with in the 1966 World Cup final on Saturday as English football marked the 50th anniversary of the country's greatest football success.

It was on July 30, 1966 that Hurst scored three goals as hosts England beat West Germany 4-2 after extra-time at London's Wembley Stadium.

Man in Belgium charged with "terrorist murders" attempt

BRUSSELS (AP) — A man in Belgium has been charged with attempting to commit "terrorist murders" and participating in a terror group and his brother has been released without charge, the Federal Prosecutor's Office announced Saturday.

The prosecutor's office said a 33-year-old man identified only as Nourredine H. and his brother Hamza H. were taken in for questioning on suspicion of plotting a terror attack following police searches Friday evening of seven houses in the city of Liege and the Mons region.
